Athletes competing in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will head back to the Athletes Village after a long day of competition and get their rest on an innovative type of bed: one that’s made of cardboard.
The Associated Press reported that the cardboard bed frames, which can hold up to 440 pounds, will be recycled after the 2020 Olympic Games.
Japanese mattress brand Airweave Inc. is an official sponsor of the 2020 Olympics and will provide 18,000 beds for the Olympic Village, according to the AP, which added that the mattresses are not made of cardboard but will be recycled into plastic products.
The 2020 Tokyo Olympics run from July 24 to Aug. 9.
